Our first episode has a story behind it.
Daniel Kyre was one of my closest friends growing up. He was already a killer guitar player when I met him (he was in 8th grade, I was in 9th). We hit it off immediately. Over the years we were friends, we discovered a similar sense of humor. I say discovered because it felt like we created this new sense of humor together. No one laughed harder than us. Although, Daniel was like that with everyone...so maybe only he was funny.
Fast forward a few years and Daniel starts a YouTube channel, Cyndago, with a mutual friend of ours, Ryan Magee. To say it was successful is an understatement (as I write this they have over 340k subscribers). This led him to move to L.A. with Ryan and their channel took off. It was awesome. I couldn't have been happier for him.
One night, another close friend, Grayson Beard, calls me as I'm laying down to go to sleep.
"Eh, I'll hit him back tomorrow. It's late." I let it go to voicemail.
He calls again, immediately. I realized something must be wrong.
"Daniel died."
It's all he said. We were both in shock.
Daniel had committed suicide. He died September 18, 2015.
While he was in L.A. we'd Skype almost every day, for hours. Usually from around 11pm until the wee hours of the morning. We talked about music of course, but some of our other shared interests as well - comedy, podcasting, graphic design, audio engineering, food, fitness, etc. These chats with Daniel throughout 2014/2015 are still some of my fondest memories.
It was one of these calls that ended up being the very first episode of The Musician's Talk Show.
Recorded on Friday, March 13, 2015, this episode was lighthearted at the time, but now carries a weight that cannot be described.
It is my hope and intention that hearing Daniel's voice again may bring you some peace and happiness.
Heaven got a true shredder, and I hope I see him again someday - so we can pick up right where we left off.
Until we meet again.
